Description
The Vilcabamba region, bastion of the Inca resistance, after the Spanish invasion show us a varied geography with a surrounding landscape dominated by mountains covered with vegetation or snow and they can be appreciated with all their beauty, the region has succession of quechua valleys and as we are going way down we find tropical valleys where the people that live in this region do the agricultural work.
In this region we can appreciate the archaeological groups of Vitcus, also known as Rosaspata, Chuquipalta or Ñustahispanan.
Itinerary
DAY 1: CUSCO - CHAULLAY - WANKAKALLI
We depart Cusco in our private bus towards Ollantaytambo town , then to Malaga mountain pass (4,200 m.s.n.m.), entering toward the valley of Huyro and Maranura. Then from Chaullay we go to Wankakalli. We will start the hike visiting the archaeological Inca Complex of Rosaspata or Vitcos, where we can appreciate the Ñusta Hisp'anan stone (the White Rock).
DAY 2: WANCACALLI - RAQÁCHACA
After breakfast we have to walk 08 hrs. approx. along an ascending path that will lead us to Qäyñu from this place we will enjoy awesome views of small glacier lagoons. Along the hike, we will also have spectacular views of the snow-capped mountains, sharped mountains, high Andean plateau in the area. We will have lunch after the pass ,and start descending 2 hrs. to Saqsara, (3700m.)then we go up to Yanaqocha.
DAY 3: RAQÁCHACA - ALLPACHACA
We will walk along an ascending path towards Tullutacana pass (4300m). we will have lunch after La Oqocha pass,(4200m) and then we go descending 2 hrs. to Yanaqocha and then to Saqsara where we will camp.
DAY 4: ALLPACHACA - LUCMABAMBA
Our trail leads us down to the eastern slope of the Andes into a sub-tropical valley, where the temperature is warmer and we see a tropical forrest and birds. After7 hrs. of downhill walking, we arrive to Yanatile village for this place we´re going by bus to Lucmabamba our campsite.
DAY 5: LUCMABAMBA – LLACTAPATA – MACHUPICCHU
After the lunch we go up through tropical farms of coffee and cacao, and we will continue to Aobamba pass 2,800m ( where we have the view of Machupicchu and the Salkantay mountain) and then we will visit the Llactapata Inca Archeaological place.
DAY 6: MACHUPICCHU - CUSCO
We take one of the early buses up to the ancient city of Machu Picchu. the guide will be leaded by an official guide of approximately 2 hours. Then we have plenty of time to explore the mysterious site on our own before returning to Aguas Calientes to catch the afternoon train back to Cusco
